I remember this movie being a lot better, wow
It’s commonly accepted in the movie world that for a movie to be a comedy and not just a normal movie that happens to have comedic relief, it has to get at least 3 laughs. Despicable me 2 is intended to be a comedy. It does not succeed. The 2 tiny giggles it got weren’t even smart, just quick visual comedy. The worst part is how much it relies on the minions. They aren’t funny to anyone but kids who find the mere existence of asses a punchline in of itself. And Facebook Karens.
This movie just layers on the cringe, and it’s never cringe when it’s intended for humour but there’s so much unintended. For example, every frame in this movie involving the 10 romance subplots. Which are so terrible that I’m not going to say why because that requires reliving it.
The plot aside all of that is so boring and uninspired it’s unbearable. Spy recruit gru to find guy who stole a can, gru find guy, spies say no, guy says surprise it me, kidnap ginger, gru not like. It’s every superhero or spy movie stripped of all twists and turns and personality.
Pros: The animation is good and at least it’s not the minions movie.
