A quirky comedy that leans hard into making Violet (Lucy Liu) a walking red-flag disaster. The problem is that it overstays its welcome, spending far too long hammering home just how weird and unhinged she is. It’s a case of “we get it” long before the film realises it. [Spoilers] After one prank too many, Neil (Cillian Murphy) finally dumps Violet and has an epiphany that he behaved similarly with his ex. The film wants this to feel like a meaningful parallel, but it doesn’t hold up. What Neil did and what Violet puts him through are chalk and cheese, and the comparison feels forced rather than earned. A solid comedy that could easily have been twenty minutes shorter without losing anything of value.
