Have you ever wondered what could have been if you had just grabbed an opportunity and said 'yes' to something? Sometimes doing the right thing is just taking a chance and seizing the opportunities in life. Welcome to The Darin Olien Show. On this podcast, you'll hear me, Darin Olien, “the superfood hunter,” have inspiring and enlightening conversations with extraordinary people from all walks of life. Although our ideas and approaches to life may differ, our ultimate goal is the same- to save the planet one conversation at a time. If you're interested in expanding your view of the world by learning new perspectives on health, nutrition and healing the planet, and want to learn more about society's fatal conveniences- the things we may be doing because the world we live in makes us believe we have to even though they may be doing harm- then this is the podcast for you. My guest for this week's episode is a kindred spirit, and I'm stoked to call him a friend. You may know Steve Wright as the former NFL player for the Dallas Cowboys circa 1981. But, did you know he's also an intensely passionate innovator and entrepreneur? Steve's entrepreneurial streak first appeared when he noticed that so many of his teammates were taking hard knocks and sustaining avoidable injuries. Early on, he became a proactive advocate for better safety equipment out on the field, which he still campaigns for today. Fast forward to 1994, and Steve and his business partner Mike Davis have just founded the world's first sidelines mist cooling system called Cloudburst Misting Systems. It was so effective that in 1996, they won the Atlanta Summer Olympics cooling contract, which catapulted this innovative technology into the public eye. Since then, he has kept on innovating, creating and being an awesome human being. In this mind-bending episode, we get a deeper view of the humble origins of Steve's career. You'll hear how most of his success stems from taking on a "Forrest Gump" mindset, and why Steve ended up as a survivor on reality TV. You'll also hear how living a minimalist existence has created a life that is certainly worth living. Other snippets from our conversation: How Steve's NFL career took off Steve talks sports injuries and keeping safe on the field Why Steve went from having Margaritas at a Mexican restaurant to creating a globally acclaimed cooling system. How saying yes to a pair of shoes became a life-changing opportunity years later Why you shouldn't chase the money Steve's experience on Season 22 of 'Survivor'. The importance of seizing an opportunity Why Steve has embraced a minimalist life This episode's Fatal Convenience: Deodorants Links: Steve Wright's career history: Wikipedia Cloudburst: Website Steve Wright: Instagram
