Fifty years ago this October, the Front de libération du Québec (FLQ), escalated their separatist campaign by kidnapping British diplomat James Cross, and Quebec Deputy Premier Pierre Laporte, sparking what came to be known as the October Crisis. In return for releasing Cross, the FLQ had seven demands, one of which was to have its manifesto broadcast - and CBC/Radio-Canada complied.
