A cult movie that's essentially a big chase to find a malevolent, body snatching alien. It leans into a rock metal soundtrack and a throws several car chases at you.
It's very of its time. You will almost certainly be charmed by its 80'ness or turned off by it. And that's about all you need to know about this film.
If you're here for a period drama set around a rag-tag group of twenty-somethings trying to get a new school variety show off the ground, then you'll probably enjoy it.
If you're here because you think you're going to see the sketches brought back to life with new actors ... 1. shame on you, they don't need to be remade. 2. that's not what the point of this movie is. I don't think the story of trying to start SNL is all that unique, but like I kind of imagined, it's interesting because of all the personalities feeding off of each other. They capture that energy pretty well, in my opinion.
It's almost more of a movie that you can't look away from, than it's a movie you watch. I was surpised with how ballsy it was, especially through the eyes of someone who grew up on movies from forty years later.
Not sure that it's terribly re-watchable, but it sure is a fascinating. It's cool to see movie early into Susan Sarandon and Peter Boyle's career too.
The violence is over the top, that makes it automatically the kind of movie that isn't for everyone. If that isn't gonna turn you off then I would recommend this movie.
You can think of it as a self aware black comedy with Final Destination style deaths. I really enjoyed Theo James' performance and after feeling only lukewarm about Long Legs, appreciated the vision that Osgood Perkins had for the story.
It's a far more serious drama than what I had expected with a good cast and a nice aesthetic. I might be in the minority here, but I wasn't a huge fan of the soundtrack.
Enjoyed it, but didn't really love it, either. Something I'm glad to have seen, but don't see the need to revisit often.
