I enjoyed this album. There were unique sounds found throughout, but some of the songs play a bit derivitive of artists like Lana Del Rey. This is a very nice lite background album to have playing for soft ambiance. I think as i sit with the album it will grow on me more, but right now im struggling to rate this a 4. Its a nice piece of work with some origionality, but then other parts of it just feel phoned in. Lonely Road, the opening track seems like it could be from another time. I get old school "Mr Sandman" vibes from the song and it teleports you to another place in time it seems. Dance is one of my favorite tracks, it has a great boppy tune and i could see me listening to this on a roadtrip or dancing in the kitchen making dinner with my husband.

I dont even know where to start with this one... I had never listened to the band before and happened to stumble across them. Hit play on the album and almost didnt make it through the first track. Trinidad starts very reminiscent of nirvana, but quickly escalates to screaming THERES A BOMB IN MY CAR repeatedly. I just wasnt getting it. I wasnt sure what i was hearing. I let it continue though and tried to draw the meaning behind it- and i think it finally clicked but still was an interesting start. I kept saying to myself "I really like the sound" and this still rings true. I love the sound of the music in the background but also digesting the lyrics throughout. Au Pays Du Cocaine has a really cool vibe. Taxes is a highlight of the album for me and i realy connected with the meaning and the overall sound of the song. This is up there with one of my favorite albums now and im excited to explore the band a bit more.

Fun album with big moments like When Doves Cry and Purple Rain. I found myself wondering "when is purple rain going to play" when listening. I love prince and think this is a fun album to throw on.

Listened through this album for the first time. Funny but my initial thought was "why do people put this on to have sex, theres A LOT of God talk." The album is very cohesive, i love that all songs flow into eachother to feel like a great listening experience. I understand why this album is one that people call great, but i feel like it requires a specific setting. I liked some of the songs, and would enjoy the morning having this play int he background, but there arent many songs i would find myself just throwing on. Overall i think this is a great piece of music and rate it highly.

This was my first time giving this album a full listen through. I really like the beats, and the way the music leaves you feeling. There are deep topics and sorrow filled lyrics that still leave you with hopefulness and optimism. There are classic snips and samples im hearing throughout that i did not know came from this album. There aren't a ton of catchy chorus or bridges, but, the iconic ones are iconic for a reason. When Lauryn transitions from ballads to rapping there is a spoken word poetry type of flow that had me rewinding once or twice to re soak in what was said especially on Superstar but heard throughout the album. I understand why this album was rated the #1 album of all time.
