Review
After two decades after when Gladiator was released, I never Ridley Scott ever had the b*****ks at continuing the story of doing the sequel of Gladiator. Yeah, like he did with the Alien prequels and that would be an improvement for him in doing many sequels of his own films but couldn't do Blade Runner, I would never had the thought of Gladiator will be getting a sequel but it did after Hollywood s***ms out their own sequels based on stand alone movies like Blade Runner and Trainspotting but became improvements so there's no denying that there's a saying many years saying that it's not as good as the first one which is impeccably true. There's no way it'll be as good as the first film because audiences love the first film really, really much for Oscar winning acting, cinematography, story and the environment. Just like your Moses and Shakespeare story. Now that we have the sequel to Gladiator, let's just see how this turns out in my review. Hanno lives with his wife, Arishat as it was many years later while Rome is corruptly ruled by the twin emperors. The Roman army led by General Acacius played by Pedro Pascal, invades and conquers the kingdom, killing Hanno's wife and enslaving him and the other survivors. The enslaved people are taken to Ostia, where the Romans pit them against baboons to advertise them as potential gladiators. He savagely kills one, impressing the stable master Macrinus played by Denzel Washington. So what do I think of the sequel? Well, I hear most people saying that the same thing but change many elements and you know what, I find it to be impressive. Ha! You'd expect to hear me say that I didn't like it, right? Well, your guess is absolutely incorrect. My guess is as good as yours. Yes, Connie Nielsen is back as Lucilla from the first film among others you might recognise and then we have Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington joining in the cast along with Tim McInnerny which whom I'm surprised to see. Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington appeared in The Equalizer 2 together and if Russell Crowe appeared in this one with Denzel as Denzel appear in the first one with him then you have American Gangster in Rome. Right? As Hanno wins the round in the games after he bit the baboon's wrist and Macrinus is impressed, the other gladiators chanting like baboons as they see him known that he bites monkeys. As watching this, I am surprised to see that plot really twists when something shocks you but didn't expect it to go in the different direction. That's when I had the same thing when the sequel really spices up the story whenever something up and took it to another direction. This is wild. With the sequel being incredible while similar to the first that people loved but it provides itself with the well acted performances, the story although very similar but took it the another direction which is one of the reasons why this film needs to exist, and Ridley Scott is incredible at doing it masterfully but not impeccably. It's violent and bloody as many recent films are going to be like that non-stop. Gladiator II is an enjoyable epic sequel that really makes up for it. Are you not entertained by it? I sure have. Aahahaha! Some are saying it didn't need to exist but that's the way life is whenever is making money, I know that's controversial of me saying that but many studios have run out of ideas. Needless to say this that I'm surprised to see that Paramount had something to do with this movie instead Universal just like it did the same thing with Blade Runner and Hans Zimmer didn't come back to do compose the music for this movie. With Gladiator 1&2 being directed by Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe appeared in the first one and Denzel Washington appeared in the second one, for me, I would watch American Gangster again after witnessing both in particular. Not as good as the first film but definitely bloody than the first film.
