I don't know where to start with this. I wanted to turn it off after 20 minutes. The quote, "He's a liberal cuck", that appears later on in the movie, sums it and the writers (Kenya Barris/Jonah Hill) up. I feel like the writers probably thought they were writing a more balanced movie than they did. You only have to compare the apologies of Ezra's mum and Amira's father to their children towards the conclusion to tell that it isn't. There are some engaging scenes and moments of comedy driven by the star power in the film, but if I had a dollar for the amount of times I cringed or rolled my eyes at some of the attempts at social commentary I'd be a rich man. The BS Amira gives Ezra when he gets in her car thinking it's an Uber is like a poorly written Curb Your Enthusiasm moment, as are other moments when the characters overreact to something that has been said. Don't get me started on Ezra's cliche/cringe podcast co-host either. Maybe it's shallow of me, but I struggled to believe that someone who looks like Lauren London would be with Jonah Hill too. And they should've used Kanye's verse.
