Review
Again, Ro’s subject matter can start to feel tired after nearly 30 years of rapping. He gets away with it more often than not thanks to his delivery and his long-standing focus on writing engaging choruses, something far too many rappers today neglect, as I’ve bemoaned in several recent reviews. ‘KKK’ opens the album strongly. As always, Ro approaches race from multiple perspectives, and the fresh chorus makes it feel unlike anything he’s done before. ‘Me Against All Yall’ is another highlight and shows that the production has a bit more bite than the last couple of Z-Ro albums. I’m not a fan of the feature on ‘Don’t Judge Me’, which ends up being the weakest track here, but aside from that, this is another consistently solid album from front to back. Given the recycled themes, though, Ro doesn’t need the 15-16 track runtimes he often opts for; a tighter 12 tracks would probably serve him better at this point in his career.
