The matriarch Berna , her husband Gonçalo, the commanders Vadeco and Durval, their children, nephews and find themselves at their worst when Brazil's economic instability hits the already poorly managed family businesses. Once chaos ensues, the situation worsens when the Court declares the company bankrupt and forces the Cavalcanti to resume activities with a “small” condition: that Piorá employees also have a stake in the company's board of directors.
