Mandalorian
Set in the world of star wars, Mandalorian is a story of a bounty hunter. Mandalorian gets payed to hunt people. However, his aim changes when he is tasked to bring a creature, or a baby, live. Mandalorian meets this creature and his journey continues to deliver it.
Spread through 8 episodes, mandalorian is everything that new age star wars movie isn't. It's fun, engaging, and character driven. In mandalorian, we see a warrior, a trained hunter who cannot be defeated. Director Jon Favreau's depiction of mandalorian is of like dark knight Batman. He has similar fighting styles, cold backstory and deep voice. His code of conduct is to not kill anyone besides his target.
One thing Favreau excels in is Cinematography and camerawork. He excels in using modern age cgi at its best. He did that in lion king, jungle book and now in mandalorian. Mandalorian feels like a fresh breath of air while watching. It's like Favreau took a sinking ship and made it float.
Another noteworthy aspect is the background score. It's downright amazing. The mandalorian theme is addicting and satisfying. It blends down the star wars music here and there to keep the core alive
Over all mandalorian is a perfect show to binge watch this weekend
This is a review of The Mandalorian from the perspective of someone who doesn't really care about Star Wars.
I've seen all of the Star Wars films just to see what the fuss is about, but the overarching good-guys-vs-bad-guys-to-save-the-galaxy plot just doesn't intrigue me, and so I often never think about the movies again after I watch them.
There are bits of Star Wars that I do like though - the world-building and interesting side characters. The Mandalorian is all about that. Even from the first episode we are introduced to as many endearing creatures and characters as I can remember from the entire Star Wars series. The funky-looking blurrgs and the affable guide who loves them. The efficient bounty droid with his hilarious self-destructing tendency. And the titular Mandalorian is a quietly compassionate warrior who is refreshingly uncheesy for a main character in the Star Wars universe.
The Mandalorian takes all the bits of Star Wars that I do like and amplifies it to the max. It is essentially a travel show at the galactic level unlimited by the geography of our real world.
I have spoken.
