I do think this is better than either of their first two albums. Pierre can actually sing, the subject matter is a bit deeper, and the instrumentation is a lot less simple. There are some flaws here and there, including occasional slips into nasal singing, but other than that, I love this album.
This is another album that I'd say is just mediocre. Crazy is a great song with a message we all can learn from, Thank You rocks, Promise is a good enough love song, and Jump, One, and Me Against the World are good rebellious anthems. Other than those, this album is not good. Untitled is particularly terrible. Still, that's half of the tracklist that I like or else love. Same as No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls. I also think that this album is slightly better than that album.
I personally think I'd Do Anything, You Don't Mean Anything, Meet You There, and I Won't Be There are great pop punk songs. The instrumentation is great on them, and the subject matter isn't too whiny by these guys' standards. I also think When I'm With You and Addicted are solid. Other than that, yeah, the album is terrible. But that's still six out of twelve songs I like or even love. In other words, this album is mediocre.
This EP is horrible. The best songs are insipid contemporary Christian schlock, and the worst song, Afraid to Say, is the worst take on cancel culture I've ever heard. Especially since Bieber wasn't canceled after everything he's done.
I thought the introspection and redemption arc felt much more sincere here than it did on Purpose. Songs like Deserve You, Unstable, and As I Am are great both musically and lyrically, Die for You really does have a great synthesizer, Ghost is beautiful, and of course Anyone is amazing. Hold On is also really catchy. Anyway, this album does have flaws, including the out of place MLK Interlude and the lame Holy. I also found Lonely, Loved By You, and Off My Face to not be that great.
