From the developers of the GTA franchise, this game puts the gamer in the shoes of a war hero turned detective trying to crack cases in the 1940s in LA. The gameplay is best described as GTA with some Law and Order thrown in, and although way more linear than GTA, the investigatory aspects make it an interesting game. However, this isn't quite implemented to perfection, as looking for items/clues can become a process of walking around and continually pressing X at times, and while a good idea, working out if a suspect/person of interest is telling the truth or lying doesn't work flawlessly.
Graphically the facial animation in this game is easily the best and most realistic I have seen in a video game. All the main characters are truly given their own personality. The one negative in this regard though, is many of the second string females in the game who all look really really similar.
Very similar to Lego Indiana Jones but with Batman characters and more levels, as you can play about 18 levels from the bad guys perspective also. So this will take much longer to complete than Lego Indiana Jones which is a good thing as that was too short.

It's fairly simply, if you enjoy the Lego franchise of games you should enjoy this. There isn't much wrong here with it moving on from Lego Star Wars, Batman, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and so on becoming a bit more sharp each time around. But as I say often, if you played any of these games to death like I have, this may not be given the hours of previous games.
Like Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes the game features an open world to move around in, but this one can be more confusing to navigate around. Apart from that, again there are minor things improved just like in each edition of the Lego series, but having played a lot of the others over the years, this didn't grab me as not enough has changed.
It's something not so original today with FIFA and the Pro Evo series allowing you to play games controlling one player only, but at the time Libero Grande based its whole game on this. The gameplay wasn't brilliant but it offered something other sport games didn't, while they let you be God and control the whole team this took realism further and let you only play as one player. In saying this though, from memory you could order your teammates to slide tackle and I think shoot which sort of takes away from the whole point of it.
